Reality TV Star Dr. Andy Baldwin to Join the Lions Clubs at the 2009 National Memorial Day Parade

Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 22, 2009 -- U.S. Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin, M.D. (http://www.andybaldwin.com/), most recognized as the star of ABC hit show, The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman, will appear on the Lions Clubs float in the 2009 National Memorial Day Parade (http://www.nationalmemorialdayparade.com/).

Dr. Baldwin, who joined the Sacramento Senator Lions Club last year, is also an Undersea Medical Officer, Ironman triathlete, Navy Diver and humanitarian.

He will be sharing the float with a number of military veterans who are Lions Clubs members and a representation of the 2008 Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest (http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/our-work/youth-programs/peace-poster-contest/peace-poster-contest-grand-prize-winners.php) grand prize winner.

The Lions will also be collecting unwanted glasses in their Recycle for Sight (http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/member-center/planning-sight-projects/eyeglass-recycling/vision-eyeglass-sight.php) boxes around the float in an attempt to set the largest collection of recycled glasses in one day.

Currently stationed in Washington, D.C. at the Navy's Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Baldwin's projects include working with the U.S. Surgeon General on their initiative against childhood obesity called ''Healthy Youth for a Healthy Future.''

Dr. Baldwin, the recipient of the DAR's 2009 Medal of Honor, has been honored as one of Washington D.C. Most Influential People Under 40 in 2009, and Outside Magazine's 2006 ''Top 100 Influential People of the World'' for treating over 600 Laotians in remote mountain villages while on a military mission. He is also the founder of the Got Your Back Network (http://www.gotyourbacknetwork.org/), a nonprofit organization that raises money to support families of fallen soldiers.

Dr. Andy Baldwin joins other celebrities, Ernest Borgnine, Gary Sinise, Joe Mantegna and Dominique Dawes at the National Memorial Day Parade. In its third year, it expects to attract over a quarter of a million spectators and be viewed by over sixteen million homes on WJLA and the Pentagon Channel.

This is the first time the Lions Clubs have appeared in the National Memorial Day Parade. The Parade is on Monday, May 25, 2009, along Constitution Avenue between 7th and 17th Streets in Washington DC and free to the public.
